Jeffersontown Fire Department is proud to show its support for a program initiated by one of its own. Two-time breast cancer survivor and Jeffersontown Asst. Fire Marshal, Jodie Imel, appealed to fire departments throughout Kentucky and across the country for support in her crusade to increase cancer awareness and raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.
The “Firefighters for a Cure” campaign asks that all on-duty firefighters wear a specially designed T-shirt instead of their usual uniform T-shirts throughout the month of October, or at least during National Fire Prevention Week (Oct 4-10). Additionally, all off-duty firefighters and their family members are asked wear FFAC shirts as an additional show of support. By wearing this T-shirt, not only will attention by a very special group of heroes be focused on breast cancer awareness, but proceeds from the sale of every shirt will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.
Another goal – in addition to raising at least $7500 – for this year’s FFAC campaign is to increase the number of walkers wearing our shirts during the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Sunday, October 25, at Louisville’s Riverfront Park. So please mark your calendars now and make plans to spend the day with us. If you can’t make it to Louisville to walk with us, use this link to check for an ACS/MSABC event in your area:
