Why do so many apparatus respond to one incident?

Incidents are dispatched by MetroSafe, who serves all of Jefferson County. MetroSafe uses an algorithm to determine which units are needed based on details such as the nature of the call, the location, and possible hazards.

3

Why do I sometimes see firetrucks or ambulances go through intersections with their lights & sirens on, then they turn them off?

When you see apparatus responding Code 3 (lights & sirens) there are likely multiple other apparatus responding as well. If they turn off those lights and sirens, it is because they have been advised by another unit that code 3 is no longer necessary, or they have been cancelled from the run entirely.

4

Where can I get my carseat installed?

Can I host an event at the firehouse?

While we do not allow entertainment-related events (birthday parties, etc.), we do have space for hosting professional meetings (HOA, clubs, etc.).

6

Why aren't the station numbers just 1, 2, 3 & 4?

In 2023 all the fire departments in Jefferson County came together to align the numbering systems of their stations and apparatus. Each department was assigned a range of numbers chronologically from West Louisville to East Louisville. Jeffersontown was assigned numbers in the 50's, which is why you will see it on all of our stations and apparatus.

7

Why do your trucks say "Keep Back 343 ft"?

While we do want other vehicles to maintain a safe distance behind our apparatus, 343 is in remembrance of the firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11.
